Kentuckians Just Say "NO" to Telemarketers

House Bill 47, the new telemarketing law, was signed by the Governor on March 6th, 2002 and is now in effect. This bill provides greater protection to consumers by stopping most telemarketing calls to those who place their telephone numbers on a list maintained be the Attorney General's Office. The list was first made available to telelmarketers on June 1st and after that date they are providing an updated list every three months.

Although the new law provides greater privacy protection than the existing law, it will still permit the following telemarketing calls, even to people on the list:

Calls from charitable organizations soliciting only for donations. (If a telemarketer is soliciting a donation as part of a sale, they must comply with the law.)
Calls regarding exisiting debts or contracts.
Calls from businesses with whom you had a prior or existing relationship.
Calls made with your express permission.
Business to business calls.

At this time there are two ways for you to sign up on the "No Call" list. You may call the Attorney General's Office at 1-800-671-7701 to obtain a signature card, or you may sign-up online at http://www.law.state.ky.us/nocall/default.htm. The easiest way to sign-up is online. NOTE: It will take a while for Telemarketers to be updated so the calls will not stop instantly.

The Henry County Chamber of Commerce is preparing for their next Leadership Classes.

You don't have to be a Chamber Member to attending this special multi-part program. The cost of the training is $200 and it is not uncommon for employers to be willing to provide for the expense. Applications are available at the Chamber office in New Castle or you may contact Pat Wallace at 845-0806 or email . Applications will be accepted thru August.

Henry County Chamber represented at the Kentucky State Fair

Pat Wallace and Doug Bates will be attending the Kentucky State Fair this month to represent Henry County at the "Pride of the Counties" exhibit area in the South Wing. Look for them at booth B1!

"Showers" Without Water (Perseids)

It's time once again for the Perseids Meteor Showers--Without Water (i.e. rain) the cosmic event will be visible August 12th & 13th. Also, the moon phase is in favor of good viewing. To learn more try these links:

Also we are presenting Announcements in HTML format now. In the past we have sent the announcements with "preferential" treatment for those that use AOL and had difficulty reading HTML formatted mail.

Pleasureville Car Show
August 10, 2002 (Rain Date 8/17)
Pleasureville City Hall parking lot
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Nostalgia? Chrome envy? Why do we smile when we see a pristine or restored "older" car? If you're looking for the answer or just want to see if a vintage car CAN really make you smile come and join us in Pleasureville. Qualified cars must be pre-1989 . H.C.H.S. Class of 1956 Mini-Reunion
August 17, 2002 -- 6:30 p.m.

The Henry Central High School Class of 1956 will hold its annual get-together on Saturday night, August 17, at the home of Lucien and Dottie Case, 210 Winding Way, Shelbyville. We will have a potluck supper, gathering at 6:30 and eating at approximately 7:00 p.m. Reservations are requested by August 13. Meat, dishes, utensils, and beverages will be furnished by the hosts. Please advise when making reservations if you will bring a vegetable, salad or dessert.

Henry County Chamber of Commerce Networking Dinner
September 5, 2002 -- 5:30 p.m./Dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The September networking dinner is fast becoming our most popular of the year...it seems that folks like getting together under the big blue sky over our fair county! You don't have to be a member to attending this meeting at beautiful Lake Jericho...just let us know you are coming and remit $12 per guest. In case we do have rain, the dinner will be held at the 4H building at the Fair Ground in New Castle. Meal by Country Bo's Meals on Grills. Our guest speaker will be Senator Ernie Harris.

Friends For Michael Golf Scramble and Celebrity Auction
September 18, 2002 -- Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
ShotGun Start 8 a.m.

Henry County Country Club in New Castle will be the location for our event. Entries will be limited to the first 144 Players (36 Teams). Teams will be made up of 4-players each and golfers may register individually or as a team. Entry fee includes: Greens fees, cart, lunch, prizes and gifts.

Entry Fees: Individuals $60; Teams $240
Lunch Provided by: OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE
Bid to have Tubby Smith or Denny Crum play with your group for this scramble.
There will be a celebity auction following the scramble. Autographed sports memorabilia and other donated items will be auctioned.
