First Lady Jane Beshear made a call for photos to be placed in the Capitol Centennial “Virtual Time Capsule” to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of our state Capitol. The photos show recollections of Kentuckians from all 120 counties by collecting the personal stories of those who either worked in the Capitol or visited there. We had several Henry County photos including this one of Sandra Smith, granddaughter of William and Sarah Mason. Sandra grew up in Eminence and as a child never dreamed that she would have the opportunity to work for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in The Office of the Governor! She gave a special thank you to her brother Mr. Phillip Smith who worked for the Office of the Governor prior to her and who helped her to achieve this opportunity. All of the photos included in the project will be posted on a “Virtual Time Capsule Web site.

The first UK Plaid Products: is available for online purchase! The initial collection includes a men’s tie, duffle bag, carrier tote bag, two sizes of cosmetic bags, two sizes of table cloths, napkins, a photo frame, and an id case. The website www.ukplaid.com offers individuals an opportunity to register their email address and receive notification when the products are available. Later this fall, the Plaid Advisory Board will be reviewing new product ideas developed by students in Merchandising, apparel, and Textiles during the 2009 spring semester and selecting additional products for production.

4H Camp Print Fund Raiser: The College of Agriculture and 4-H Youth Development operate four 4-H Camping Centers across the state. These facilities have been in operation since the mid 1960’s. Most of the buildings are originals. There is a need to perform much needed repairs on our buildings and modernize facilities. The camps must operate on the revenues they generate through camping fees. These fees are not enough to cover the repairs and renovations needed. Therefore 4-H is undertaking a multi-faceted fund raising campaign to raise the funds needed. One part of our campaign is the sale of camp prints. John Ward, a Kentucky artist from Mt. Sterling, was commissioned to paint a scene from each camp. From each original, there are 500 signed and numbered 16 x 20 prints available of each camp.
The prints are $35 each. Here is the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp print. These may be viewed on the 4-H website at http://www.ca.uky.edu/agcollege/4H/camp/improvement/index.htm. There is also a brochure on this fund raising campaign and an order form on the website. Prints may be picked up at the 4-H Youth Development Office in Scovell Hall on campus or shipped to any location. The prints are beautiful scenes of nature at camp. They will make a great addition to any home or office. If you have questions just give Cathy Toole a call.
